v2.10-37 causes System Startup Problems

Postby pilotart on Sun Dec 31, 2006 4:41 am

Had been using v1.90 SA/IE for the past four months without any problems, but had never used the BufferZone Reset .
After running Reset (all three checked) an attempt to open IE caused 100% CPU Freeze, tried reboot and same again for an hour, so I removed Version 1.90 (left 'virtual folders).

Install of BZ SA/IE version 2.10-37 seems to work fine and no issue with 'Reset' but it has caused annoying problems with my system,
which is a Dell D800 Centrino 2GHz/1,5GB RAM WinXP-pro SP2 AntiVirClassic ZoneAlarm BufferZone SpywareBlaster SpyBot Ad-Aware NSW Office2002 WxWorx & Jeppesen NavSuite.

Have completed install, removal and another install of BufferZone 2.10-37 and see the following (X)[OK] errors on each and every startup of my system:

The above file has never existed on my system, I do have the most current ALPS Driver and it (as well as the previous four versions) do not contain Apwheel.exe
however, until you click the [Ok] of that warning box, the Touchpad only runs on the Windows Generic (without 'scroll' or other ALPS features)
as soon as you click the above [OK] then the ALPS Driver immediately loads and Touchpad operation is normal.

The warning box below not only appears on inital start, but it continues to re-appear (on top) every ten minutes, :( forever and stops activity until you click the [OK] button.

Once again the above referenced file has never existed on this system and NSW functions normally.

These had never, ever been seen before install of BufferZone v2.10-37 and went away after removal of first install only to reappear with the second install of BufferZone 2.10-37.

Way beyond my understanding why BZ would be looking for those non-existant files and hope that someone can tell me how to end that. :)

issues solved :)

The answer for the problems outlined above turned out to be quite simple.

Knew that Apwheel.exe had been no longer needed since Win98 (which was why none of my ALPS Drivers contained it) but my Win95-98 System had Synaptics and not ALPS.

Went to Dell Downloads and found their oldest system with ALPS (Inspiron 37K) and downloaded the ALPS Driver for it and extracted its files to a folder, sure enough it had an Apwheel.exe.

Copied this Apwheel.exe to my current ALPS Driver folder and rebooted, now it warned about a missing *.dll, since there had been an Apwheel.dll as well,
added it and that boot up warning was gone and the ALPS Systray GUI Console loaded on Startup.

For that GoBack\register.exe that could not be found on my oldest NSW2003 CD, an extraction of the ‘setup.exe’ files to a backup copy of NSW2005 GoBack install folder contained a ‘register.exe’
and that was added to the “Windows cannot find…” location and that took care of that boot warning as well as the more annoying ten minute repeat of it.

Have yet to see any problems due to addition of these un-needed files, would suppose security could be set to prevent their running, should any problem arise.

Any expert that might know of any further action that I need to take, would love to read a response about that.
